Hi again, everyone! I have some news & changes to let you know about with how the Austin Computer Book Club is run.
Now that we’ve had 6 months of meetings since restarting this meetup, I thought it was to time to reevaluate. Thank you to everyone who provided input in the couple of recent polls; that feedback has been very helpful in informing these decisions.
The first and probably biggest change is that starting immediately, we’ll meet every other month, instead of every month. Even for me, the person who knows before anyone what book we’ll be reading, it’s a fast pace to get a copy and have it finished in time. I’ve also found myself less inclined to attend other meetups, with this one on the calendar every single month. We’ll keep the same pattern of book selection (alternating more technical/applicable titles with more historical/cultural ones), but the pace will be a little more relaxed. I hope that this will let more people get involved. As always, completely finishing the book is never required!
Second, we’ll move the time a little earlier, from 7:00 to 6:30, and switch days to Wednesdays or Thursdays. I originally picked Mondays because there few conflicts with other meetups, but I’ve gradually learned why that is. 🙂 On the first day of the week, it’s common for people to be too busy and/or too tired to make it out for an extra activity in the evening.
Lastly, I’ve decided to go ahead and set up a website and social media accounts. In a way, this is more to reach everyone but you folks who are already members through Meetup. But I’d still be happy to have you follow, friend, join, subscribe, spread the word, etc., as you like:
